INTEREST The World Premiere: ‘Mitsubishi Car Polo Challenge’ was won by Bernd Hotz. Players were placed on Mitsubishi Pick-up truck and had 5 minutes to make as many goals as possible. This was great fun and proved a fantastic spectacle for guests, players and the media. At the PIPA Ice Polo Trophy (March 7th - 11^th 2013) another even more powerful and fast version of Car Polo will be presented with 2 teams with each 2 cars, 2 drivers and 2 players playing against each other, playing for seven and a half minutes per chukker over 4 chukkers.

For 2012 PIPA the Beach Polo Grand Prix is planned to be held as the 1st PIPA European Beach Polo Championship. PIPA member nations can apply for participation directly at PIPA (info@pipa.com)

EVENT 2012 Maserati South Beach Women’s Polo Cup, April 26^th and Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup, April 27^th, 28^th and 29^th2012.

VENUE Miami Beach at 21^st Street and the Atlantic Ocean

HOST International Beach Polo Association and The Polo Life.

BENEFIT Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

RESULTS The Maserati South Beach Women’s Polo Cup was won by the Heys USA team of Alicia Harden, Cecelia Cochran and Diana Jack.

APRÉS There were parties every night of the event, beginning on Wednesday night with a Welcome & Cocktail Hour at The Raleigh Hotel. The Raleigh served as the “clubhouse” for the tournament and also hosted the closing party.

NAMES Nic Roldan, Jamie Morrison, Kris Kampsen, Guille Usandizaga, Luis Escobar, John Gobin, Gringo Colombres, Brandon Phillips. Facundo Obregon, Juan Monteverde and Lindor Novillo Corvalan. John Walsh, TV host of America’s Most Wanted and a past participant was also present.

TASTE Food was catered throughout the tournament byKone Sushi , Fogo de Chao and Kung Fu Sushi.

SIP As part of the luxury experience at this year’s event, CIROC, the official vodka of the Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup, entertained guests in the CIROC Peach Lounge, where a series of polo-inspired cocktails were served, including the CIROC Berry Beach Polo, CIROC Peach Polopony, The CIROC Coco-Chukker and the CIROC Stirrup. Argentina’s Gascon Wine was also major sponsor.

INTEREST The Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup, the main show for the event, was won this year by the Yellow Cab Polo Team of: Simon Garber, Juan Monteverde and Kris Kampsen. After two days of competition, three of the six teams were tied with 2-0 records, the finalists decided on the basis of net goals, and then the storm came. Thirty-mile-per-hour winds and torrents of rain made the balance of the tournament unplayable, for the first time in the tournament’s eight year history. The Raleigh was positioned to defend its 2011 title against a talented Yellow Cab Polo Team, but conflicting schedules on the ensuing Monday kept it from happening and Yellow Cab won by forfeit, 1-0.

EVENT Hurlingham Polo Association Gaucho International Polo event, held on 21 March 2012.

VENUE O2 Arena, North Greenwich, UK.

HOST HPA & Gaucho Restaurants.

BENEFIT Sales of white jeans by Polistas contributed towards the British Forces Charity.

RESULTS England snatched victory from Argentina after the game went to penalties with a tie at 15-all. England were led by Captain, Jamie Morrison, for the second year running. Scotland beat Ireland in the earlier match 15-12.

APRÉS The after party, with white jeans theme, was held at Indigo and Gaucho.

BIG NAMES Nacho Figueras, Jamie Morrison, Jamie LeHardy, Sebastian Dawnay - Captains of Argentina, England, Scotland and Ireland respectively.

BENEFIT The E&V Charity benefiting a primary school project in Togo.

RESULTS The Engel & Völkers team emerged victorious and were presented with the Engel & Völkers Polo Cup trophy by Joachim von Berenberg. 2nd place: Team Drettmann Yachts. 3rd place: Team Son Campaner. 4th place: Team Berenberg Bank.

APRÉS The after party was hosted by Mr. Christian Völkers and held at the main house.

SPY Guests were dressed completely in white and included numerous celebrities such as singer Vicky Leandros, members of Mallorcan society and European aristocracy. The German polo stars Oliver and Christopher Winter, and Hamburg Senate’s Junior Sportsman of the Year in 2011 Caesar Crasemann joined the festivities after their match.

HEARD The principal host, Christian Völkers said, “ Polo is a fascinating sport for me. It’s not just about speed and precision which are absolutely crucial, but it is also about perfect teamwork between the player and their horse.”

TASTE Guests enjoyed an asado (an Argentinean barbecue) prepared by chef Ricardo Schettini, further catering by the Mallorcan catering company Menú.

INTEREST More than 60 horses had been transported by ferry from the Spanish mainland or by transporter from Germany. To reach the finca, the horses were taken across the Tramuntana Mountain range.
